Active thermal mass
Accessible heat and coolth is stored into the TermoDeck slabs reducing ventilation energy requirements.
The inherent thermal mass within the TermoDeck slabs absorbs unwanted heat energy from the building which can be purged out overnight if required. In winter the absorbed energy will be beneficial in helping to maintain the buildings temperature.
Comfort
The TermoDeck slabs and heat recovery principles allow each building to be supplied with full fresh air with minimal conditioning. By actively using the internal cores of the hollowcore, the ability to store heat and coolth is greatly increased and an exposed hollowcore ceiling soffit is an ideal medium to influence occupant comfort through both radiant and convective heat transfer.
TermoDeck supply air diffusers can be located throughout the building, ideal for deep plan spaces, providing a quite and draught free air distribution solution.
Energy
TermoDeck can provide heating and cooling up to 80 W/m2 through the active thermal mass.
If required the TermoDeck slabs can absorb almost unlimited night free cooling at low COP’s, and discharge this coolth during the occupied period when it is most needed. This unique feature helps reduce the need for energy intensive mechanical cooling plant.
Architectural
The TermoDeck slabs provide a good quality soffit suitable for direct decoration.
The TermoDeck slabs act as invisible ductwork within the occupied spaces providing unobstructed, clean line ceiling finishes.
Freedom to innovate building design with no security issues.
Structural
The TermoDeck system adds a second environmental function to hollowcore, a standard and efficient method of providing a structural floor.
With no false ceilings required, this offers the possibility of reduced storey heights and reduced costs of the building envelope.
Hollowcore allows off-site manufacturing with spans up to 16m and offers excellent strength to weight ratio.
Mechanical
The TermoDeck slabs naturally dampen the internal temperature swings in a building without additional energy input.
The TermoDeck slabs can reduce heating and cooling plant sizes due to their ability to better accommodate and displace short term extreme inputs.
In most cases, TermoDeck removes the need for any other form of space heating within the building.
Part L and BREEAM
TermoDecks experience of low energy building design can help designers exceed the requirements of the new Part L Building Regulations 2010. Our specialised thermal dynamic simulation software will help advise optimum building design reducing the need for building servicing.
The TermoDeck system and the hollowcore slabs also contribute exclusive points towards BREEAM accreditation. The hollowcore slabs can help achieve an A+ rating within the BRE Green Guide to Specification.
Knowledge bank
The TermoDeck system is a well established, proven technology with many buildings across various sectors within the United Kingdom. TermoDeck's expertise in this field has helped them scoop prestigious awards including consecutive The Building Services Journal Major Project of the Year.
